Abstract – Demanding university workloads can be challenging for students; thus, effective study habits are crucial for the retention of information. This review has analyzed four study strategies: practice testing, highlighting and underlining, summarizing and note-taking, and spaced repetition. While highlighting/underlining and summarizing/note-taking are popular methods, they lead to passive learning. The strategies of practice testing and spaced repetition are less commonly used, yet more effective in prompting active recall and enhancing learning. Keywords were used to search for data from PUBMED and JSTOR between July and August 2022, multiple rounds of screening followed to ensure relevant results. Overall, this paper could serve as a valuable resource for students aiming to improve their study habits and achieve better academic performance.
