Abstract – This study will look into the question: What role does Vitamin B12 have in the health span of wild- type and Sir-2.1, which lacks sirtuin pathways, mutant C. elegans, and in preventing oxidative stress? It was hypothesized that Vitamin B12 would demonstrate antioxidant activity and increase movement and that the N2 and Sir-2.1 strains would not react significantly differently to the assays. Overall, the results demonstrate that Vitamin B12 in normal conditions does increase movement with and without sirtuin pathways, but the vitamin relies on sirtuin pathways to limit oxidative stress.
