THE POWER OF LOVE: THE EFFECTS OF GRADE 11 STUDENTS’ ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS ON THEIR ACADEMIC MOTIVATION

by Yannis Añonuevo et al
Category: Social Science
Abstract – Motivation is an intangible predictor of academic achievement not seen in grades. Adolescents in high school may find this motivation to pursue romantic relationships. Consequently, the motivation change brought about by the relationships of Grade 11 students in Philippine Science High School Main Campus was explored by analyzing focus group discussions and interviews conducted with them. Results showed that the romantic relationships perceived as healthy were driven by autonomous motivation; furthermore, these relationships positively affected their drive to study and accomplish academic requirements. Overall, this implies that romantic relationships may have a direct positive effect on academic motivation.
