IYRC FALL 2023 Keynote Speakers
DR. ANETTE WU FORTGANG

Anette Wu (Fortgang), MD, PhD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Medical Sciences and Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She is a member of the teaching faculty, and the founder/director of the “Columbia International Collaboration and Exchange Program — Preparing Global Leaders for Healthcare (ICEP)” — an international multi-school consortium preparing health professions students for healthcare leadership through international collaboration, cultural competency, and global health training. Dr. Wu’s research focuses on internationalization of medical education. She received her MD and PhD from Hannover Medical School in Germany. She trained in General and Transplantation Surgery at Hannover Medical School, and Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School. She received her MPH from the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, and has served as the president of the Alumni Association and continues to serve on the Board of Directors, where she also chaired the Special Events Committee. At the Alumni Association, Dr. Wu served two terms as a Board member, chaired the Special Events Committee, was a member of the Steering Committee for the Columbia Leaders Experience, and serves on the Programs Committee. Dr. Wu served as a Board member of the Asian Columbia Alumni Association. Dr. Wu’s biggest satisfaction is seeing Columbia students thrive and become leaders in the healthcare field. |
DR. IKURO KASUGA

Dr. Ikuro Kasuga was born in 1977. He obtained Ph.D in Environmental Engineering from The University of Tokyo in 2005. He worked at Department of Water Supply Engineering, National Institute of Public Health in 2005. He served as Assistant Professor at Department of Urban Engineering, The University of Tokyo in 2006 and promoted to be Associate Professor in 2016. From 2018 to 2020, he had been dispatched to Vietnam Japan University in Hanoi, Vietnam as an international cooperation expert to support the establishment of Master’s Program in Environmental Engineering. Since 2022, he has moved to Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo. His research interests include antimicrobial resistance in urban water environment, biological water treatment, control of opportunistic pathogens in drinking water, and characterization of dissolved organic matter. |
