From Wastewater to Energy: Generation of Hydrogen Gas From Treated Domestic Water

by Shahd Gaber and M.N. Asaad
Category: Chemistry
Abstract – Suffering from energy shortage globally (especially Egypt), reinforced investigators to search for alternative energy sources particularly green hydrogen, for its less harmful impacts. Prior studies revealed the production of hydrogen gas from various types of water, mainly the domestic one: Kitchen, Soap, Dyeing, and Salt wastewater. However, obtaining such wastewater types independently seems to be challenging, as the project focused on the production of hydrogen gas from treated domestic wastewater extracted from drainage stations. For findings, the results declared the production of hydrogen gas in the presence of the electrolyte KOH (potassium hydroxide) at high rates, which proved the project's success.
