Developing the Smart Farming Index Across Countries

Abstract – The paper examines the potential effectiveness of Smart Farming, a data-driven approach to tackling agricultural challenges, in various regions worldwide. By creating an index from datasets representing each nation's agricultural environment, economic status, and available resources, and employing Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for ranking, the study identifies the top five countries with the strongest potential for Smart Farming: Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, and Finland. These nations serve as valuable models for adopting data-driven farming techniques to achieve sustainable growth and address pressing agricultural issues, such as climate change, population growth, and water scarcity.
